This is a confident, layered work that successfully balances abstraction with botanical suggestion. The central form reads simultaneously as a flower, a cloud, and something more visceral — an organ, a bloom mid-explosion — which gives it genuine psychological tension.

The decision to center the form on a single stem is both risky and effective. It creates a deliberate naivety — almost folk art or child-like in its directness — while the complexity within the form itself subverts any sentimentality. The stem grounds the piece without over-explaining it. The gray field is generous and well-calibrated; it breathes without feeling empty.

The yellow gestural scrawls are the most energetic element and do a lot of work — they inject urgency and prevent the piece from becoming too resolved or decorative. The tension between those raw marks and the softer, layered passages (the pale greens, the creamy whites, the dusty rose) is where the painting lives
